I had a conversation with a strange man on my couch last night under our sweaty air conditioner. He read me a rejection letter he had gotten from a fantasy journal he submitted to last month. The editor told him that his intro dragged, that his plot wasn't supported and that there was no surprise at the end. It made me wonder, where does a story (that by the way I thought nailed a moment so untouched) get published? Where do we put the niceties that create the space between everything that has already been defined, those crystal spaces that don't carry a strong plot or defined characters, but etch a narrative we don't know we've experienced until we read it on the page. I guess what I'm saying is we need a Black Lodge Journal...stat!
